What was being voted on

119-HR-29 — Laken Riley Act

This bill requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to take aliens into custody if they are charged with, arrested for, convicted of, or admit to burglary, theft, larceny, or shoplifting. It establishes that the definitions for these crimes follow the laws of the jurisdiction where the acts occurred. The bill also grants State attorneys general or authorized officers the standing to sue federal officials for various immigration enforcement actions. These legal actions can be brought if the State or its residents suffer harm, including financial harm exceeding $100.
