Using this site

Congress For Voters is a free website that turns what Congress publishes about itself into a plain-language record. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

What the information is, and is not

The facts — bills, their text, sponsors, every action and recorded vote — are copied from Congress's own publications. The summaries and scores beside them are written by AI from those records, and can be wrong.

  • A first reading, not a verdict. Check anything that matters against the source, which every page links to. How we make this explains how each part is made and checked.
  • Not advice. Nothing here is legal, financial or voting advice, and nothing tells you how to vote.
  • It can be late or incomplete. The site copies Congress's records on a schedule, and a record can take days to arrive.
  • Tell us when it is wrong. Every summary and score has "Report a problem with this", and every report is read.

Signing in

Signing in uses your Google account and is needed only for the assistant and for following. You are responsible for what is done while you are signed in. We may limit or end access for anyone who misuses the site.

The assistant

The assistant answers questions from the site's own records. Its answers are written by AI and can be wrong, like the summaries. There is a daily limit on questions, because each one costs money to answer.

  • Do not use it to harass anyone, to produce anything unlawful, or to try to make it say what the records do not.
  • A conversation you share is public to anyone with its link until you stop sharing it.

Fair use of the site

Read, link to, quote and share anything here. Please do not:

  • send automated requests fast enough to slow the site for others, or ignore its robots.txt;
  • try to get around sign-in, limits or security, or reach what is not meant to be public;
  • present the site's summaries or scores as Congress's own words, or as the site's endorsement of anyone;
  • use the site for anything unlawful.

Whose words are whose

Congress's own records are public, and are as free to use here as anywhere. The site's own writing, design and code are ours. What you write to us — questions, feedback, reports — stays yours; you let us keep it and use it to answer you and to improve the site, as the privacy policy describes.

No guarantee

The site is provided as it is, without any promise that it is complete, current, free of errors or always available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss that comes from using it or relying on it.

Changes

The site changes, and these terms may change with it; the date at the top says when they last did. Using the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
