What this bill would do
This Act, known as the "Miracle on Ice Congressional Gold Medal Act," authorizes the award of 3 Congressional Gold Medals to the members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team. The medals recognize the team's victory over the Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics. The legislation directs the Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore of the Senate to arrange the awards. Specific medals will be distributed to the Lake Placid Olympic Center, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Museum, and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum. The Secretary of the Treasury is responsible for the design and striking of these gold medals. Additionally, the Act allows for the creation of bronze duplicate medals to be sold to cover costs.
