What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Miracle on Ice Congressional Gold Medal Act," authorizes the award of three Congressional Gold Medals to the members of the 1980 United States Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team. These medals recognize the team's achievement in defeating the Soviet Union during the XIII Olympic Winter Games. The legislation directs the Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore of the Senate to arrange the award. One medal will be given to the Lake Placid Olympic Center, one to the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Museum, and one to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum. The Secretary of the Treasury is tasked with designing and striking the gold medals. Additionally, the act allows for the striking and sale of duplicate bronze medals.
