What this amendment would do
SA 3828 is an amendment proposed by Mr. Moran for Mr. Cramer to H.R. 452. The purpose of this amendment is to award 3 Congressional Gold Medals to the members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team.
This amendment aims to replace everything after the enacting clause of the bill with new text that:
- Establishes the Miracle on Ice Congressional Gold Medal Act.
- Recognizes the achievement of the amateur collegiate players who defeated the Soviet hockey team during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York.
- Lists the 20 team members and acknowledges the guidance of coach Herb Brooks.
- Notes that the victory revitalized American morale during the Cold War and increased the popularity of ice hockey in the United States.
- Directs the Secretary of the Treasury to strike the medals and outlines that they be displayed at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Museum, and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Museum.
- Allows for the sale of duplicate bronze medals to cover costs.
