What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "761st Tank Battalion Congressional Gold Medal Act," seeks to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the 761st Tank Battalion. The battalion was the first Black soldiers to serve as part of an American armored unit during World War II. The award recognizes their crucial role in the success of Allied forces in Europe and the example they set. The medal is to be struck by the Secretary of the Treasury and presented by congressional leadership. Following the presentation, the gold medal will be given to the National Museum of African American History and Culture for display and research.
