Senate Roll Call 60

119th Congress · Session 2 · March 21, 2026

A vote to end debate and allow a final vote

In the Senate, debate can continue indefinitely unless 60 senators vote to end it. This vote is that attempt. It decides whether the Senate may vote on the thing at all — not whether the thing passes. A failed cloture vote usually ends the matter without anyone ever voting on its merits.

What was being voted on

119-SAMDT-4421 — To protect women and girls in athletics.

The purpose of this amendment, titled SAVE AMERICAN SPORTS, is to change the Education Amendments of 1972. It aims to add the following rules for any recipient of Federal funds that operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs or activities: It would be a violation to allow a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity designated for women or girls. Sex would be recognized based only on a person's genetics and reproductive biology at birth.

The Senate recorded this as
On the Cloture Motion S.Amdt. 4421 to S.Amdt. 4420 to S. 1383 (No short title on file)
To protect women and girls in athletics.
