Senate Roll Call 79

119th Congress · Session 1 · February 21, 2025

A vote to set aside an objection that the measure breaks a budget rule

A senator objected that the measure spends or cuts more than the budget allows. Sixty votes set that objection aside; fewer, and the measure is stopped by the objection without a vote on what it would do.

What was being voted on

119-SAMDT-233 — To create a point of order against legislation that would cut funding from the school lunch or school breakfast programs.

This amendment, proposed by Mr. Van Hollen and Ms. Hirono, aims to create a point of order in the Senate against any legislation, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that cuts funding from the school lunch program or the school breakfast program. If someone tries to push a measure that cuts money from these feeding programs, this rule allows a Senator to raise an objection. To get around this objection and allow the cuts to be considered anyway, it would take a three-fifths vote of all the Senators chosen and sworn.

The Senate recorded this as
On the Motion (Motion to Waive All Applicable Budgetary Discipline Re: Van Hollen Amdt. No. 233)
To create a point of order against legislation that would cut funding from the school lunch or school breakfast programs.
Result: Motion Rejected
Needed three-fifths (60 of 100 senators), the bar for ending debate.
