What this bill would do
The Marc Fischer Memorial Interdiction of Fentanyl in Postal Mail at Federal Prisons Act requires the Director of the Bureau of Prisons to create a plan to stop fentanyl and other synthetic drugs from entering federal prisons through the mail. The Director must first evaluate current technology and how other agencies intercept contraband. Following this, a strategy must be submitted to Congress to provide facilities with the tools to protect staff and inmates. This strategy must include a system for digital mail delivery and a process for handling legal mail. The plan must also include a budget for equipment and technology through fiscal years 2025 to 2027. Finally, the Director must complete the implementation of this plan within three years.
