What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Charlie Kirk Congressional Gold Medal Act. It directs the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate to arrange for the award of two gold medals to Charles "Charlie" Kirk. The text states the medals recognize his life, service, and dedication to the people of the United States. One medal will be presented to his family, and the other will be given to the Smithsonian Institution for public display and preservation. The Secretary of the Treasury is responsible for designing and striking the gold medals, and has the authority to strike and sell bronze duplicates.
Who it would affect, and how
Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
Section 3(a)(1) provides that one of the gold medals shall be presented to his family, which directly honors his wife and children as surviving family members.
-
Section 3(a)(2) and Section 3(b) require that one medal be given to the Smithsonian Institution for display and preservation, ensuring that his legacy and contributions are preserved for the people of the United States to view.
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- Section 6(a) authorizes charges against the United States Mint Public Enterprise Fund to pay for the costs of striking the medals, which draws funds away from the public enterprise fund to cover manufacturing expenses.
