What this bill would do

This bill is known as the Living Donor Protection Act of 2025. It stops insurance companies from treating people unfairly just because they chose to be a living organ donor. Under this legislation, insurers cannot deny coverage, cancel policies, or charge higher rates for life, disability, or long-term care insurance based solely on a person's status as a donor, unless there is an actual and material actuarial risk. State insurance regulators are given the power to enforce these rules. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to update public educational materials and websites to explain the benefits and risks of donation and inform the public about these new insurance protections.
