What this bill would do
This Act, known as the "BRAVE Burma Act," seeks to amend the Burma Unified through Rigorous Military Accountability Act of 2022. It requires the President to determine if certain entities meet criteria for sanctions. These entities include specific state-owned enterprises, Myanma Economic Bank, and foreign persons involved in the jet fuel sector. The President must make these determinations within 180 days of enactment and annually for seven years. Additionally, the bill directs the Secretary of the Treasury to instruct the U.S. Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund to limit increases to Burma's shareholding if controlled by the State Administration Council.
