What this bill would do
The REPAIR Act aims to ensure consumers have access to their own vehicle-generated data and critical repair information. It prohibits motor vehicle manufacturers from using technological or legal barriers to prevent owners or repair facilities from accessing necessary tools and data. The bill requires manufacturers to provide data through interface ports and wireless telematics systems without undue restriction. Additionally, it prohibits manufacturers from mandating specific brands of parts or tools during repairs without proper notice. To oversee these efforts, the bill establishes a Fair Competition After Vehicles are Sold Advisory Committee. Finally, the Federal Trade Commission is tasked with enforcing the act against unfair or deceptive practices.
