What this bill would do
The DAIRY PRIDE Act seeks to regulate how food products are named in interstate commerce. It establishes that a food cannot use the name of a standardized dairy product unless it meets specific criteria. Under this bill, a food is only considered a dairy product if it is derived from or contains as a primary ingredient the lacteal secretion of a hooved mammal. The Act amends the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to enforce these standards. It also requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to provide specific guidance on enforcement. Finally, the Commissioner of Food and Drugs must report on enforcement actions and penalties to Congress.
