What this bill would do

The Healthy Families Act aims to allow Americans to earn paid sick time to address their own health needs and those of their families. Under this bill, employers must provide employees with at least 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to a limit of 56 hours per year. This earned time can be used for various reasons, including personal illness, medical care, caring for family members, or dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. The Act establishes specific rules for how this time is earned, used, and protected from employer interference. It also provides enforcement mechanisms through the Secretary of Labor and allows for civil actions by employees.
