What this amendment would do

SA 5806 is an amendment proposed by Mr. Durbin and several other senators to be added to amendment SA 5453 for bill S. 2.

The amendment aims to change the following:

  • It increases a specific funding amount to $2,510,000,000, which remains available until September 30, 2029.

  • It requires $10,000,000 of those funds to be used for processing renewal applications for employment authorization documents and deferred action under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, as long as that regulation is in effect.

  • It adds a section called "Funding Reduction and Limitation" which does two things:

    • Reduces the amount appropriated under section 202 by $10,000,000.
    • Prohibits the use of funds in this title to remove, deport, detain, or arrest any person reasonably believed to be a DACA recipient for violating the Immigration and Nationality Act, unless they no longer meet the program's requirements and while the regulation remains in effect.
