What this amendment would do

Mr. Kaine, along with Mr. Schatz, submitted amendment SA 1786 to the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025.

The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund. This fund allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to make adjustments to financial allocations and the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation that restores the jobs of specific workers.

What It Aims to Change or Add

  • Adds a provision relating to protecting FBI agents and Federal prosecutors from political retribution.

  • Aims to fund the restoration of jobs for any law enforcement personnel and Federal prosecutors who were fired for participating in investigations of the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the United States Capitol.

  • Requires that any legislation using this fund would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
