What this amendment would do

Mr. Van Hollen, along with Ms. Alsobrooks and Mr. Kaine, submitted amendment SA 1272 to the bill H.R. 1968. The purpose of this amendment is to place a restriction on how government funds are used.

What it Aims to Change or Add

The amendment aims to add a limitation on the use of amounts for DOGE into division A of the bill. Specifically, it states that appropriations, available funds, and granted authority under the Act may not be used by:

  • The United States DOGE Service, or any successor agency
  • The U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization, or any successor agency
  • A detailee of an agency described in the first two points who is working at any other agency

What Congress actually voted on

  • The Senate: a vote on a proposed change to the billAmendment Rejected 48–52

A vote on one change, not on the bill. A bill can collect dozens of these, and losing one does not stop it.
