What this bill would do
This bill, known as the ``Student Aid Fraud Oversight and Accountability Act of 2026'', seeks to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965. It requires the Secretary of Education to prioritize program reviews for institutions of higher education that distribute Federal financial aid without verifying a student's identity when there is a reasonable suspicion of fraud. The Secretary will identify these institutions based on a detection system. However, institutions can avoid this identification if they verify identities through in-person or live, synchronous audiovisual methods.
