What this bill would do
The Puerto Rico Nutrition Assistance Fairness Act aims to transition Puerto Rico from a consolidated block grant to the supplemental nutrition assistance program. The bill amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to include Puerto Rico in various definitions and eligibility requirements. It requires Puerto Rico to submit a plan of operation to the Secretary of Agriculture within 180 days of designating an appropriate agency. The Secretary will then review, and if satisfied, approve and certify the plan. The legislation also manages the transition period for current block grant operations.
