What this bill would do
This bill, titled the "Preparing Election Administrators for AI Act," requires the Election Assistance Commission to create voluntary guidelines regarding artificial intelligence in election administration. The Commission must work with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to address the use and risks of these technologies. These guidelines will cover risks, benefits, cybersecurity, and the impact of AI-generated information. Additionally, the Commission is tasked with studying the use and impacts of AI technologies in the 2024 Federal elections. This study must be completed and submitted by July 31, 2026. Finally, the Commission will review and update the voluntary guidelines based on the results of that study.
