What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Save Oak Flat from Foreign Mining Act," seeks to repeal section 3003 of Public Law 113-291. The legislation aims to stop the transfer of Oak Flat, a piece of land in the Tonto National Forest, to the joint venture known as Resolution Copper. By repealing the previous law, the bill withdraws Oak Flat from all forms of entry, appropriation, or disposal under public land and mining laws. This action is intended to prevent the extraction of copper by foreign mining entities for export to the People's Republic of China. The bill addresses concerns regarding national security, water resources, and the protection of ancestral lands.
