What this bill would do
The Fire Innovation Unit Act directs the establishment of a pilot program focused on new and innovative wildfire technologies. The Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior will create this deployment and demonstration partnership within one year of the bill's enactment. This program aims to advance technologies related to wildfire prevention, detection, communication, response, and mitigation. Covered entities, such as private entities and nonprofits, can participate by submitting applications to demonstrate their technologies. The program also involves connecting these entities with federal, state, or local agencies for real-time testing. The pilot program is scheduled to terminate seven years after the date of enactment.
