What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "MACV-SOG Congressional Gold Medal Act," aims to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the service members of the Military Assistance Command Vietnam-Studies and Observations Group. This group conducted high-risk activities in South Vietnam, North Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia during the Vietnam War. The act authorizes the Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore of the Senate to arrange the presentation of a single gold medal. The Secretary of the Treasury is tasked with striking the gold medal with suitable emblems and inscriptions. Following the presentation, the medal is to be given to the Smithsonian Institution for display and research.
