What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Roadless Area Conservation Act of 2025. It provides lasting protection for inventoried roadless areas within the National Forest System. The bill prohibits the Secretary of Agriculture from allowing road construction, road reconstruction, or logging in these inventoried roadless areas where those activities are banned by the Roadless Rule. Congress finds that these roadless areas protect healthy watersheds, provide clean drinking water, and maintain fish and wildlife habitats. They also offer opportunities for outdoor recreation like hiking, hunting, and fishing, while still allowing for the development of hydropower projects.
