What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "BRUSH Fires Act," directs the Secretary of Agriculture to conduct a comprehensive study on wildfire mitigation. The study focuses on the effectiveness of methods used to reduce wildfire risk and damage within or near shrubland ecosystems. Specifically, the Secretary must evaluate fuel management, native ecosystem health, and Forest Service policies regarding ember ignitions. The study also looks at how weather and topography affect mitigation and identifies obstacles facing fire managers. Finally, the Secretary is required to submit a report to Congressional committees detailing best practices and coordination opportunities.
