What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Supporting Every at-Risk Veteran In Critical Emergencies Act of 2025 or the SERVICE Act of 2025. It authorizes the Attorney General to run a pilot program providing grants to States, local governments, and Indian Tribal governments. These grants are meant to support the creation and operation of veterans response teams within local law enforcement agencies. The program allows for activities like training law enforcement on mental health issues and setting up communication systems with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The authority for this program will end five years after it is enacted. The Attorney General is also required to report to Congress on the progress of the pilot program.
