What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "SALUTE Act," directs the Secretary of Defense to establish a pilot program to assist certain members of the Armed Forces and their dependents. The program allows covered individuals to obtain supplemental insurance through fixed indemnity supplemental benefit plans. These plans are designed to help participants pay for noncovered expenses related to cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. The Secretary will enter into agreements with no more than two companies to provide these plans. The program includes specific requirements for company licensing, cost negotiation, and enrollment via payroll deduction.
