What this bill would do
The "Probationary Reduction for Employee Protections Act," or "PREP Act," aims to shorten probationary periods for new Federal employees. For those who previously held a position in the executive branch civil service, the period is limited to 6 months. For all other individuals, the limit is 12 months. These changes apply to the Competitive Service, Excepted Service, and Senior Executive Service. Additionally, the bill removes a specific subsection regarding the Internal Revenue Service.
