This bill, known as the "Fair Milk Pricing for Farmers Act," seeks to amend the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946. It introduces requirements for manufacturers to report production costs and product yield information for all products processed in the same facility or facilities. Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
Increased Transparency on Processing Costs: Manufacturers would be required to report production costs and product yield information for all products processed in the same facility (Section 2, amending subsection (b)(1)(C)). This provides specific data on how much it costs to process dairy products.
-
Regular Information Updates: The Secretary is required to publish a report containing the reported production cost and yield information not later than 3 years after enactment and every 2 years thereafter (Section 2, amending subsection (d)(3)). This ensures that the information regarding dairy processing costs is made public on a recurring basis.
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- New Reporting Requirements for Manufacturers: The bill requires each manufacturer that is already required to report under subparagraph (A) to also report production cost and product yield information as determined by the Secretary (Section 2, amending subsection (b)(1)(C)).
