What this bill would do
The bill is called the Veterans Housing Opportunity Act. It directs the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, working with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to set up the HUD-VASH National Pool Pilot Program within one year. Under this program, the Secretary can take back chronically underutilized rental housing vouchers from public housing agencies and give them out again. These reallocated vouchers will go to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The pilot program will end after five years, but veterans who get a voucher through the pilot can keep it under the standard program.
