What this amendment would do
SA 4981, submitted by Mr. Padilla and Mr. Bennet, aims to add a section to title III of S. Con. Res. 33.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund for protecting free and fair elections.
This change would allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to:
- Revise committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels in the resolution.
- Make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislative actions relating to protecting free and fair elections.
The text notes that protecting free and fair elections may include prohibiting unlawful interference by Federal law enforcement at election administration sites and polling locations that could:
- Prevent qualified voters from voting.
- Interfere with the duties of elections officers.
This is provided that the legislation does not increase the deficit between fiscal years 2026 and 2035.
- 4/22/2026
- 1 Cosponsor added.
