What this amendment would do
SA 4161, submitted by Mr. Padilla and Mr. Whitehouse, aims to stop the use of government funds to pay people involved in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The amendment intends to add the following changes to the bill:
-
It prohibits using funds from this Act or any other Act to provide or facilitate compensation to anyone prosecuted for involvement in the attack, even if they were later pardoned.
-
It prevents the use of funds to create or facilitate a compensation fund for those individuals.
-
It stops the U.S. Treasury from refunding court-ordered compensation, such as fines, restitution, or special assessments, to anyone convicted of involvement in the attack, including those pardoned.
-
It requires the Secretary of the Treasury to move any such refund amounts to the account for the "Architect of the Capitol--Capitol Building" to be used for the operation, care, and maintenance of the U.S. Capitol.
