What this amendment would do
SA 3858, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a new section to title V of division A of bill S. 2296. This addition would create a pilot program to support military families transitioning to civilian life.
The purpose of this amendment is to have the Secretary of Defense establish a non-clinical, community-based pilot program. This program would use eligible national organizations to provide the following:
- Identification of military families within three years of transitioning to civilian life.
- Ongoing resources, training, and neighborhood connection support, such as peer-led support groups, resilience workshops, and a digital resource hub for caregivers, children, and spouses.
- Tracking of the families' progress.
The program is designed to run for three years at three geographically diverse military installations, specifically targeting one installation each on the West Coast, Midwest, and East Coast. Funding for this program would come from the Transition Assistance Program.
