SA 3778, submitted by Mr. Mullin, aims to add a new section (Section 658) to Chapter 37 of title 10, United States Code, regarding medical accession standards for members of the armed forces.
The purpose of this amendment is to:

Require the Secretary of Defense to create uniform medical accession standards using common medical standards for personnel induction, enlistment, or appointment.
-
Ensure these standards and the waiver process are understandable and readily available to potential members.
-
Require the Secretary concerned to create a process to review medical disqualifications for people wanting to join the armed forces.
-
Establish annual reporting to congressional defense committees on the number of people disqualified due to medical history, the types and number of waivers approved, and any updates to standards or the waiver process.
-
Require specific reporting for the Coast Guard regarding approved waivers to the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the House of Representatives.
