What this amendment would do
SA 3747, submitted by Mr. Daines, aims to add a new section to bill S. 2296 regarding the limitation of certain pharmaceuticals.
The purpose of this amendment is to stop the Department of Defense, the Department of State, and the Central Intelligence Agency from supplying or administering any pharmaceutical product that:
- Was produced, developed, or discovered using assistance from the World Health Organization or any entity using World Health Organization grant funds.
- Financially benefits the World Health Organization through its distribution or sale.
There is an exemption to this rule. The Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of State, or the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency can allow the use of these products if they determine the product is vital to their mission and cannot be safely or effectively replaced by a product that is not prohibited.
