What this amendment would do
SA 3239, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a new section to title V of bill S. 2296. The purpose is to create a pilot program to support military families as they transition to civilian life.
The amendment requires the Secretary of Defense to set up a non-clinical, community-based pilot program at a military installation within 180 days of the Act's enactment.
To do this, the Secretary of Defense will use the Transition Assistance Program and work with veterans service organizations and military service organizations to:
- Identify families of Armed Forces members who are within three years of transitioning to civilian life.
- Provide these families with ongoing training, resources, and neighborhood connection support. This includes resilience workshops, peer-led support groups, and a digital resource hub for caregivers, children, and spouses that focuses on community reintegration, practical life skills, and emotional wellness.
- Track the progress of the families.
