What this amendment would do

SA 3214, submitted by Mr. Marshall, aims to add a prohibition on the use of funds to bill S. 2296.

The purpose of this amendment is to ensure that no funds authorized or made available by the Act are used to provide direct or indirect funding to the following:

  • The Wuhan Institute of Virology in the People's Republic of China.
  • The EcoHealth Alliance, Inc.
  • Any laboratory owned or controlled by the governments of the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Cuba, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela under the regime of Nicolas Maduro Moros, or any other country the Secretary of State determines to be a foreign adversary.
  • Gain-of-function research of concern.
