What this amendment would do

SA 3175, submitted by Mr. Padilla, aims to add a new section to bill S. 2296 to create a pilot program for peer-to-peer mental health support in Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) high schools.

The purpose of this amendment is to have the Secretary of Defense test whether these programs are feasible and advisable.

Program Details

  • Implementation: The program will start in the first academic year after the Act is enacted.
  • Locations: The pilot will take place in at least 5 covered DODEA schools that have enough mental health infrastructure, including at least one school located outside the United States.
  • Parental Consent: Schools must get consent from parents for any student participating in the program.
  • Duration: The pilot program will end 2 years after it begins.
