What this amendment would do
SA 2901, submitted by Mr. Schatz, aims to add a new section (SEC. 2827) to bill S. 2296.
The purpose of this amendment is to limit how Department of Defense officials can oppose land use changes that would increase the housing supply in areas already zoned for residential use.
To oppose these changes, a Regional Environmental Coordinator or other Department of Defense official must:
- Obtain approval from the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.
- Notify the Senate Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
- Notify the House Committee on Armed Services and the Committee on Financial Services.
