What this amendment would do
Mr. Padilla submitted amendment SA 2822 to limit how money can be used when it comes to our elected officials sending troops out onto our streets. As folks who want to keep an eye on our government and make sure they play by the rules, this amendment is all about setting clear boundaries.
What It Aims to Change
- Cuts off funding for deploying members of the Armed Forces for domestic law enforcement purposes, or as a support function for it, unless specific conditions are met.
- Requires permission in the form of a written request from the Governor of a State, or the Mayor in the case of the District of Columbia.
- Allows exceptions only if the authority provided under chapter 13 of title 10, United States Code, commonly referred to as the Insurrection Act, is invoked.
