What this amendment would do
Mr. Daines, along with Ms. Ernst, submitted amendment SA 2706. As folks who expect our elected officials to be straight with us, we need to know what this change is all about. Common sense tells us this amendment does two main things to the Social Security Act.
What It Aims to Change and Add
-
Sunset of the TANF Contingency Fund: This part ends the TANF Contingency Fund completely. It permanently takes back any money left sitting in the fund that hasn't been spent yet, and stops any more payments from being made out of the fund starting on the date this is enacted. It also stops any State from being eligible for or receiving payments from the fund.
-
Improved Funding for Child Care: This part adds an extra $2,000,000,000 in appropriations for grants to States to improve access to child care to support work, but only for the period of fiscal years 2026 through 2029. Any of this specific child care money that is still unobligated will be permanently taken back on October 1, 2033.
