What this amendment would do
This amendment changes rules for health insurance plans to make certain insulin products more affordable for everyday people. It aims to cap out-of-pocket costs for specific types of insulin, remove deductibles for those products, and stop insurance companies from making you jump through unnecessary red tape just to get your medicine.
- Caps out-of-pocket costs for selected insulin products at $35 per 30-day supply for plan years beginning before January 1, 2027.
- Eliminates deductibles for selected insulin products starting on or after January 1, 2026.
- Requires pharmacy benefit managers and health plans to pass 100 percent of insulin-related rebates and fees directly back to the health plan.
- Speeds up the review and development process for generic and competitive biosimilar products to help lower drug prices through market competition.
