What this amendment would do
As folks who elected our officials, we need to know what our government is working on. This amendment, submitted by Mr. Heinrich and several other Senators, aims to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to supporting federal wildland firefighters and other federal personnel certified to respond to and support wildland fire management and suppression operations.
What It Aims to Change or Add
This amendment allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise certain budget allocations and adjustments. It does this for legislation related to supporting federal wildland firefighters and other certified personnel, as long as that legislation does not increase the deficit from fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2034.
The legislation supported by this fund may include:
- Provisions to recruit and retain such personnel
- Providing industry-standard leave policies following wildfire deployments
- Exempting such personnel from hiring freezes
- Reinstating the employment of such personnel whose positions were terminated during calendar year 2025
- 4/4/2025
- 8 Cosponsors added.
