What this amendment would do

Mr. Kaine submitted amendment numbered SA 1889, which creates a deficit-neutral reserve fund. The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to make adjustments and revise allocations for future legislation.

Specifically, it aims to add the ability to fund the Forest Service and National Park Service so they can repair and maintain trails and other outdoor recreation assets on Federal land that were damaged by natural disasters during 2024. To keep our elected officials accountable, this addition requires that any spending for these repairs does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
