What this amendment would do
This amendment was put forward by Mr. Padilla and Mr. Warnock. Looking out for the public, it is our job to keep track of how our elected officials want to handle federal funds and your personal information.
What the Amendment Changes
The amendment aims to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund to the budget resolution. Here is what that fund is meant to cover:
- Barring Federal Funds: It allows for changes to the budget to stop the use of federal money for carrying out Executive Order 14248, which is referred to as the Election Integrity Executive Order.
- Restricting Access: It also relates to stopping the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from getting access to state voter registration information.
This means the budget could be adjusted for legislation targeting these two specific actions, as long as the legislation does not increase the overall deficit between the total of fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
