What this amendment would do
Look, as folks working for you in Congress, we need to keep our officials accountable and make sure common sense prevails. Senator Kaine put forward an amendment, known as SA 1779, for the 2025 congressional budget resolution.
What It Aims to Change
- The amendment adds a new point of order in the Senate.
- It blocks the Senate from considering any legislation, resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that provides funding for efforts to reduce the number of federal employees who are veterans through mass removal, rescheduling, or furlough by a Federal agency or department.
- To bypass this rule, it takes a three-fifths vote of the Senators chosen and sworn to waive it or to sustain an appeal of the ruling of the Chair.
