What this amendment would do
Ms. Slotkin submitted this amendment to hold our officials accountable by setting up a rule in the Senate. This rule creates a point of order against certain legislation.
What It Aims to Change or Add
The amendment aims to add a specific rule to stop the Senate from considering any bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that would weaken or eliminate Medicare's authority to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to lower prescription drug costs for beneficiaries.
The amendment also states that this new rule can only be waived or suspended, and a ruling of the Chair can only be sustained upon appeal, by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Senators duly chosen and sworn.
