What this amendment would do
Mr. Schatz submitted SA 1688, which is an amendment intended for the concurrent resolution on the congressional budget for fiscal year 2025.
-
The purpose of the amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to school choice efforts that undermine the Federal trust responsibility to Indian Tribes and Native students and families.
-
It aims to allow the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
-
It allows adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to prohibiting the diversion of Federal funding for school choice efforts (which may include efforts in the Department of Education and the Department of the Interior) that undermine the Federal trust responsibility to Indian Tribes and Native students and families.
-
This change is allowed provided that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
