What this amendment would do
Mr. Gallego submitted amendment SA 1650 to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund. Common sense tells us this is about giving Congress the financial room to pass future laws focused on strengthening the workforce at the Department of Veterans Affairs without increasing the national deficit between fiscal years 2025 and 2034.
The Purpose
The purpose of this amendment is to allow the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to change budget allocations and make adjustments for legislation that deals with the Department of Veterans Affairs workforce. Specifically, it aims to clear the path for legislation that could:
-
Mandate the reinstatement of Department health care practitioners found to have been wrongfully terminated.
-
Direct the Department to review past terminations.
-
Establish a process for reinstatement.
